Sehwag bowled over by Aarti
Virender Sehwag and wife Aarti recall to espnstar.com how they met and fell in love as they go about celebrating Valentine's Day.
Sehwag might be the most destructive batsman in world cricket but is quite a romantic when it comes to the love of his life.
The rampaging Indian opener and his Valentine share their thoughts on love and each other exclusively to espnstar.com.
Aarti: It was Valentine's Day last year and we were in Goa but I was feeling low as I was down with fever. I was not prepared when Viru sprung a sweet surprise on me. In the evening, Viru came close to me and presented me with a beautiful red rose. He is such a sweet person. I was speechless. My husband made my day. Later, we had dinner together at Taj Exotica. For me, it was a grand gesture of love.
We were friends initially and used to call each other 'buddy'. We would talk for long hours as 'friends' and surprisingly he would ask me to find a bride for him. I would just smile and say 'ok' leaving him to be with enhanced anxiety as to any answer on my part as per his expectations that I could read easily," says Aarti.
It was in May 2002 when Viru formally proposed to me.
I still remember the first time we went out together. We'd gone to the Chanakya theatre to see Dil Chahta Hai and nobody recognised him then! Before marriage we've gone shopping together and had either lunch or dinner at restaurants in CP - all this is just impossible now!"
Our ring ceremony (February 22, 2004) will always remain the most memorable day for us as the occasion happened so peacefully unlike our wedding as on that day rain lashed the city just before the start of the ceremony. Also some outsiders took advantage of the situation and messed up things.
Ever since we've got married, he's become more caring while staying as nice!
Earlier, I wasn't really a cricket fan though I watched matches at times. I started taking more interest in cricket only after I got to know Viru well.
I still remember when he bought me a cute little teddy carrying a heart. It was before our wedding.
It feels great to marry a person of your choice. He is a very simple man, down to earth and extremely understanding. The best part about him is that he is a very committed person. Once he promises something to somebody, he never breaks it. Moreover, whatever he says he does.
He is quite stubborn. You cannot convince him if he says 'No' to something.
Our son Aaryavir looks like Viru, both of them are Librans. But the name is of my choice. It just came to my mind as I was looking for a name which would have sounds of both Aarti and Viru, and what could have been better that Aaryavir!
Virender: I found Aarti very simple and she understands everything. She knows how to carry herself. At times she becomes very emotional but that's alright as it's a part of her nature.
I am very happy that I have married the woman I love.
Of course as a married man I feel more responsible just like any other husband. I've become a proud father of a cute baby boy so now I feel another responsibility on my shoulder. But nothing has changed for me as a player. Cricket is my professional life and marriage has nothing to do with it. On the field all that I have on my mind is cricket. Off the field, I spend time with cricketing friends, my son and Aarti.
Aarti has been in my life for eight years now. I would not say that marriage has changed me all that much. Whenever I get time, I want to relax with family members. She is with me on almost every tour along with my son Aaryavir. When I return from the field, I like to play with my son. It's such a fresh feel! Besides, we watch TV, have lunch or dinner together, and sometimes go on shopping spree.
